Did you know that unrestrained pets were the third top cause of over one and a half million driver distracted accidents reported last year?  Also reported, between 3 million and 5 million pets are killed each year in auto accidents, many of which could have been prevented by simply securing them in a safety restraint.  The loss of human life is just as staggering!

Would we put our children in the back seat of our vehicle without strapping them in safely?  Of course not!  So why then would we let our dog run free around the vehicle?  Here are some of the top reasons to restrain your pet while traveling:

1. Prevent Driver Distractions.
2. Protect Other Vehicle Occupants - an unrestrained pet may be thrown at other occupants within the vehicle in case of a sudden stop or accident.
3. A dog who has been in an accident is likely to be in shock or confused, often causing them to attack people who are trying to help them, like rescue workers.
4. Dogs can be easily distracted.  If they see something they want, a pet restraint would prevent a dog from jumping out an open door, or window, and running away.
5. Convenience - a restraint will save you from having to hold your pet every time a door or window is opened.
6. Feeling of security - a restraint will make your pet feel more secure when you have to suddenly stop, accelerating, swerving or going around turns.
7. In many states, there is a law in place demanding that you restrain your pet!
